The full day trip to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah departs from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 In the morning with a pickup by an air-conditioner and comfortable vehicle and drives you for an amazing journey towards the high atlas where the majestic mountains reveal their fantastic colours, each distinct and contrasting with its neighbour in colours and height. Panoramic view from the Tizi N tichka pass over the folds frequented by nomadic desert tribes, mainly in summer. Follow a narrow road back to the French protectorate to the village of Telouat. Then visit the Kasbah, the seat of the legendary Glaoui family who came to power in the south at the end of the 19th century, where you will learn more about this magnificent building. You leave the palace and drive along the river downstream, Oued Malh or salt river in the local language, the ancient caravan route from the Sahara countries to Marrakech. The road passes through adobe villages and gorges full of caves. During spring the river turns into a torrent of ice grey and white as the snow begins to melt.
Your next stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a small fortified village classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site since 1989. Studded with crenellated spires and richly decorated, it is now used as an ideal location for filming scenes. Ait Benhaddou is a fortress made of a group of Kasbahs, and home of about 8 families who are still living in the old part of the Ksar, it is also the decor and background of many Hollywood blockbusters which were shot there such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and the Kingdom of Heaven, etc. Once we are there you either have lunch first or take a guided walk of the ancient settlement, cross the dry river to get to the hill’s top for the magnificent views, and to dominate the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, you will learn about the Berbers and their culture. At the end of the afternoon, meet the driver for heading back to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, this excursion ends with drop-off at your accommodation in town approximately at 06:00 PM.
