Itinerary
The 3-day tour to the Merzouga Sahara desert via Ouarzazate departs from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech at 8:00 in the morning with a pickup by an air-conditioned and a comfortable vehicle. As you travel through the southern region of Morocco, you will pause to take in the stunning scenery and take some wonderful pictures. We travel the highest road in Africa, the Ti-n-Tichka Pass, which crosses the High Atlas Mountains. When we get to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, your guide will tell you about its intriguing past as the former caravan route connecting Marrakech and the Sahara in modern-day Morocco. Ten families still reside in the Ksar, although the majority of the town's residents now reside in a more contemporary village across the river. Following a typical lunch at a local restaurant, we proceed to Ouarzazate, where you will have the chance to tour Atlas's film studios, learn about the former employees and the films that were filmed there, and then visit another world-renowned 18th-century Kasbah. We go via Skoura's palm grove on our way to the Rose Valley, stopping at the stunning Kasbah of Amridil (optional). After that, head out to the Rose Valley, where you stop to tour a rose cooperative to learn more about the advantages of the goods manufactured from the special rose. Take advantage of the yearly rose festival if you visit in May. After crossing the Berber villages, passing the valley of the thousand Kasbahs, and taking in the expansive landscapes, we arrive at the Gorges of Dades in the late afternoon. Spend an overnight accommodation with dinner and breakfast in a guest house, riad, or hotel.
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan breakfast at your place of accommodation as you wake early in the morning. Our 3-day desert tour will continue to Merzouga after you have had a chance to take some breathtaking pictures of the vast canyon at the Gorges of Dades. The Todra Gorges and the town of Todra are your first stops. You drive through Erfoud, the city of fossils and dates, after touring the Gorges of Todra. We then have lunch in Rissani. After receiving a warm cup of mint tea upon arrival in Merzouga, ride your camels and explore the Erg Chebbi desert's sand dunes before arriving at the desert tent at the base of the Great Dune. During the camel trek, be amused by the beautiful sunset over the sand dunes. Spend a night in a Berber tent, have a Moroccan traditional dinner, and enjoy music and folklore at night under the stars.
NB: If you book a luxury tour, then you will have breakfast and shower at the desert camp; otherwise, the breakfast and the shower will be at the hotel after your camel rides back in the morning.
Early in the morning, you can watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi desert's sand dunes, eat a traditional breakfast in the desert camp, ride your camels, and return to your hotel in Merzouga village. From there, you'll meet the driver to begin a new exploratory journey towards Marrakech, passing the city of Rissani, the capital of the Alaouite dynasty, and the ancient Sultan Alaouite, which is known for its markets and served as the former trading hub for caravans from the north and south of Africa's Sahara. You make your way to Draa Valley. Proceed via the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the Tazarine and Nkob oases, and the marketplaces after a brief stop. Travel to Ouarzazate via the port of Ait Saoun (1660 meters above sea level), the Berber settlement of Agdz, and the breathtaking Valley of Draa. Savor lunch at a neighborhood eatery in Ouarzazate. We take you back across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech in the afternoon. About 6:00 PM is when you get to the Red City. This desert tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation or airport transfer in the city of Marrakech.
