Itinerary
After meeting you at the airport or at your place of accommodation in Tangier, Morocco's northern port facing Spain, we will drive through the Rif highlands, which are home to Berber settlements and valleys. The Blue Pearl, Chefchaouen, is tucked away in these highlands. Chefchaouen, one of Morocco's most attractive cities, is a photographer's paradise and a fascinating destination to visit. It is renowned for its white and blue houses, narrow squares, twisting alleyways, and blue-painted stairways. With twelve mosques and shrines, the holy city is a cheerful place with paved streets that lead to a number of shaded squares. Spend the night with breakfast at a hotel, riad, or guest house.
You take a guided city tour of Chefchaouen after breakfast at your place of accommodation, and then you have the entire day to explore and stroll around the Medina. Admire the amazing blue walls that have made this city renowned, learn about the town's history, and uncover its hidden treasures. Enjoy a walking tour of the Medina's charming little streets with your knowledgeable guide. You will see the main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and explore local shops and cafes. If you want to learn more about the culture, you might want to visit the Great Mosque, the Kasbah Museum, or the Ethnographic Museum, which has old weapons, musical instruments, and Old City photos. The Ras Elma River, which flows through the ancient town, is another place you can stop. Spend the night with breakfast at a hotel, riad, or guest house.
Following breakfast at your place of accommodation, we depart the blue city and journey through the region's breathtaking scenery. Until we arrive at Ouazzane, which is home to some of Morocco's greatest honey and figs, we pass fields of wheat, wildflowers, and traditional metal-roofed homes. A tour of the Roman Ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO site, comes next. There are several streets, buildings, columns, mosaics, and a massive doorway among the extensive excavations. This significant city, which was first established in 225 BC, offers a fascinating window into Roman life in the area. You will discover all about its significance and history with your guide. We then drive to the imperial city of Meknes, which was established as a military settlement by the Almoravides dynasty in the eleventh century and developed into a metropolis under Sultan Moulay Ismail in the seventeenth century. With the enormous Bab Mansour, the walls, the granary, the Sahrij Swani Basin for storing water, the plantation, and a gate with elaborate mosaic, or Zellige, he introduced a Hispano-Morish architectural style. After touring the stunning city of Meknes, we continue on to Fes, the spiritual capital, where we spend the night and have breakfast in a hotel, riad, or guest house.
Following breakfast at your place of accommodation, you go on a guided Fes city tour. Thanks to its many mosques, Medersas, walls and fortifications, fortified gates, mausoleums, palaces, and squares, this city, which is a thousand years old and a cultural and spiritual capital, has effortlessly been taken away through its past. A guided tour of the Andalusian districts, the Moulay Idriss zaouïa, the Marinids necropolis, the El Attarin Madrassah, and the magnificent Karaouyine will provide you the points of reference you need to examine the city of Fassie's religious and cultural heritage. With your guide, have lunch at a Moroccan restaurant. The atmosphere of the souks makes Fez a haunting city as well! Allow your senses to carry you away as you lose yourself in the vibrant, boisterous maze with delicate or delicious scents. To learn all the traditional secrets of eastern beauty, don't miss the henna souk. Explore the souk el-Attarine, a spectacular concentration of all the hues and fragrances of spices, for a feast for the senses. Go up the terraces of the leather goods businesses to get a panoramic view of the multicolored dye pools that are so beautiful, and to get away from the lingering smells of the tanners' district. Overnight and accommodation in a hotel, riad, or guest house with breakfast.
Drive across the Middle Atlas via Ifran, also known as "Moroccan Switzerland," and Azrou after breakfast at your place of accommodation. You will meet Barbary apes on your visit to the Cedre Gouraud tree in the cedar forest. From here, we traveled south via a number of villages, where you might have seen nomads residing in tents by the side of the road. Volcanic rocks are also visible. You can have lunch at Midelt, where we'll be stopping next. We then proceed, taking in the expansive vistas as we pass the TiziN'Talghomt (1907m). Pass through the Ziz Gorge and the tunnel close to Errachidia to observe the turquoise-blue water of the Barrage Hassan Al-Dakhil. Proceed to Erfoud, where you will pause for a broad perspective of the Ziz River's palm of Aoufous. Arriving at Merzouga and trekking on a camel for approximately one and a half hours to reach the Erg Chebbi dunes, taking in the most breathtaking sunset over the dunes, listening to music and folklore at night under the stars in a Saharan desert camp, and spending the night with breakfast and dinner in a Saharan desert Beber tent at the heart of the dunes.
NB: If you book a luxury tour, then you will have breakfast and shower at the desert camp; otherwise, the breakfast and the shower will be at the hotel after your camel rides back in the morning.
Getting up early to watch the sunrise and then having breakfast when your guide calls you to do so. After a long journey, you arrive at your hotel to take a hot shower and prepare for the next day of the tour. When you go to Rissani, you can explore the Souk (local market) and view the Fondouks, where donkeys congregate, in addition to visiting Zawiya Moulay Ali ash-Sharif. We continue traveling through "the capital of marble fossils" to reach Erfoud-Tineghir. On our journey, you'll notice the Khatarat (deriego canal system). Tinejdad, or Tineghir, is where we will have lunch next. After that, we'll follow the river to the gorges, where we'll do a walking tour and take in the breathtaking views of the towering rock walls (up to 300 meters). After that, we travel to the Boumalne Du Dades Gorges, where you may spend some time exploring the gorges and the rock formations that contrast with "human bodies, fingers of monkeys." Spend the night with breakfast and dinner at a hotel, riad, or guest house.
Following breakfast at your place of accommodation, we drive through Boumalne du Dades, El-KelaaM'Gouna, and Skoura on our way to Ouarzazate. While traveling, take in the views of the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, Rose Valley, and the oasis of Skoura. We will stop briefly to see various points of interest before reaching Ouarzazate, where you can stop for lunch. Go to some of the Ouarzazate's tourist attractions in the afternoon, such as the Kasbah of Taourirt, a residential castle made of rammed earth that was constructed by the Glaoui dynasty in the early 20th century and is still in excellent condition, with a third of it open to the public. Film studios that produced internationally acclaimed films are another reason for Ouarzazate's fame. The Cinema Museum in the heart of Ouarzazate is another amazing sight. Since it is directly across from the stunning Kasbah Taourirt, it is simple to combine a visit to both sites. Exhibited here are statues, decorations, costumes, film equipment, and other items from past motion picture productions. Spend the night with breakfast and dinner at a hotel, riad, or guest house.
Following your breakfast at your place of accommodation, we go to the town of Ait Ben Haddou. Once there, we explore the unique Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will then be driven through the TiziN'Tichka (2260 m) to the Kasbah of Telout, which is only 40 km from Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. This Kasbah was once the caravan route from the Sahara over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, and Kings Moulay Hassan gave the El Glaoui family political power in Morocco south of the High Atlas Mountains. The palace is still open for tours, although it is gradually deteriorating and falling apart. The Glaouis were nearly as powerful as the sultan himself. The property was undergoing restoration in 2010. After lunch in the Pass of Tichka, we continue our drive across the high Atlas to Marrakech. Arrive in Marrakech at approximately 6 or 7 p.m. Spend the night in a hotel, riad, or guest home with breakfast.
You start a guided city tour of Marrakech after breakfast at your place of accommodation. The tour includes stops at the Koutoubia, a representative structure of Almohades art, the Museum of Marrakech (which features ceramics, pottery, and jewels), and the Palace of the Bahia, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture with patios and gardens. Saadian tombs, where the exquisite decorations and the crossing of the tourist destination Djemaa El Fna Square will awe you. Visit the city's outskirts in the afternoon, including the tower walls, the olive tree-planted Garden of Menara, the French painter Jacques Majorelle's botanical garden, Medersa Ben Youssef, the crown jewel of Arab-Andalusian architecture, and Majorelle Garden. Spend the night with breakfast at a hotel, riad, or guest house.
